Absolute Beginner Bachata Jan 30 8:30pm-9:30pm 4 Fridays $80 Total
Beginner Bachata classes are designed for anyone with "two left feet." This dance, which originated in the Dominican Republic, is popular for its relatively simple 4-beat rhythm and the social, friendly atmosphere of its community.
Here is a breakdown of what a typical beginner class looks like:
🕺 What You Will Learn
The Basic Step: You’ll master the signature "side-to-side" movement. It’s a 3-step sequence followed by a "tap" on the 4th beat (often accompanied by a slight hip pop).
Rhythm & Timing: Instructors help you hear the beat in the music so you can stay in sync with your partner.
Leading & Following: You’ll learn the "frame" (how to hold your arms and body) to communicate movements to your partner without needing to speak.
Basic Turns: You will eventually learn simple right and left turns that can be integrated into your basic steps.
👟 What to Expect in Class
No Partner Needed: Most classes rotate partners frequently. This is actually better for learning because it forces you to adapt to different "leads" and "follows."
Comfort is Key: You don't need fancy dance shoes. Wear comfortable clothing (jeans and a T-shirt are fine) and shoes with a smooth sole (like dress shoes or worn-down sneakers) so you can spin easily without sticking to the floor.
The Vibe: Bachata has a reputation for being "sensual," but beginner classes focus almost entirely on footwork and fun. It’s a very social environment where making mistakes and laughing about them is part of the process.
